Okay, who am I and how did I get to be an expert in personal peace? I have over 30 years experience as a social worker, psychotherapist and personal growth facilitator. I started with psychological counseling for myself in the midst of an unhappy marriage about 30 years ago. I moved on to practice and teach meditation, then earned two masters degrees in counseling and psychology, and a doctorate in spiritual science. I worked for over 15 years in children’s protective services, which is rated right up there with police and air traffic control as one of the most stressful professions in the world. I also know what it’s like to ruin my health through stress. In the mid-nineties, I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome and I had almost constant respiratory infections that generally looked like “walking pneumonia.” I had to take a disability leave from my work and I eventually spent over two years rebuilding my health. In the process, I learned a great deal about letting go of stress from the inside out. I made it back to health, and resumed work in the same county social services agency, facing the same stressors. But this time, I knew enough to love myself from the inside out on a daily basis. Over and over, I used the very techniques I share with you in my book! Bottom line: because I changed from the inside out, that last three-year period in social services was an absolutely wonderful job! I stayed healthy and happy while doing excellent work, full time, as well as completing my doctoral studies.
